Simply Money Y2K Date Fix Now Available for Download!
See "Date Problems" below:
- Date Problems: If you are having problems with the dates of current transactions appearing in your registers as 1900's dates, you can now download our “Simply Money Y2K Upgrade”. This changes the default century of the program from 1900 to 2000.
The Y2K Upgrade has been contributed by Mr. Bill Miller of Fenton MO, a long-time user and fan of Simply Money.
The Simply Money Y2K Upgrade is a 3.2 megabyte file, which will take a while to download if you have a dial-up modem. Once the download has been completed, locate the file on your system and double-click on it. This will launch the installer, which will upgrade the existing Simply Money program on your hard drive.
In all other respects, Simply Money uses whatever date format is defined in the Windows Control Panel on your computer.. If the Y2K Upgrade doesn't solve your problem, you may have neglected to specify a four-digit year in the date format section of the Control Panel. If this is set to two digits, Simply Money assumes all dates are in the 1900's. To set the date format, follow this procedure:
| a. |
Go to Start/Settings/Control Panel on your Start Menu. |
| b. |
When the Control Panel window opens, double click on the "Regional Settings" icon. |
| c. |
When the "Regional Settings Properties" window opens, click on the "Date" tab at the top. |
| d. |
Make sure that a four-digit year format option is selected in the drop-down boxes for both "short date style" and "long date style". |
| e. |
Click OK to set the format. Download Y2K Date Fix: For Windows 95 and 98
For Windows ME, NT 4.0, 2000 and XP |

Once you have downloaded the file, you can then view or print out the document at your leisure (there are 12 chapters plus appendices). - Upgrading or Transferring Data Files: If you want to make your Simply Money 1.0 data files available to Simply Money 2.0, and/or you are transferring to a new computer, here is the procedure to use:
a. First, make a backup copy of the Simply Money Finance Group that you want to transfer to Simply Money 2.0. You must use the "Backup" feature in Simply Money 1.0 to do this. If you are transferring from one computer to another, place the backup copy on floppy disk(s) and insert the disk into the new computer's floppy disk drive.
b. Then, launch Simply Money 2.0. Click on the "Help" button or F1, search for the word "Restore", and then further select the specific topic named "Restoring Data to a New Finance Group". Print out this topic and follow the steps it describes.
c. If you see a message stating that you are restoring a previous version of data, just click OK.
d. Please note that the Restore feature can only restore data that was backed up using the Backup feature.

These instructions are also available on pages 2-3 and 2-4 of the Checkwriting and Personal Finance User Guide, which can be downloaded as above."
Keycode Tracker Programs & Simply Money
Occasionally a less sophisticated software program such as Pest Control will give a false positive (a fancy way of saying it is there, when it is not) about Keycode tracking in Simply Money. This happens because the original Simply Money software code was written between 1991 to 1996. Since 1997 Simply Download has simplified this base, tightened code, and added small features on top of the base--but not altered the original code. The result has been a very compact simple program that works extremely well taking up a minimum of room and resources on your PC.
A more sophisticated program such as Norton or McAfee does not give these false positives. If you are still concerned about this issue, run Norton or McAfee.
Having said that, we love Pest Control for alerting us to real issues and some false positive ones (always good to check; as is said in our Fix it and Home Repair CDs, "Measure twice, cut once."
No other Simply Download™ product has this issue.
